Responsibilities:
The Engineering Intern will support various aspects of an engineering design project and ensuring designs and drawings lead to a successful construction outcome.
The job responsibilities of the Engineering Intern include:
-Develop civil site drawings including site plans, grading plans, demolition plans, utility plans, drainage plans, erosion control plans, landscaping and irrigation plans, details and additional drawings as required.
-Perform necessary calculations including stormwater calculations, hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, etc. as required and develop necessary specifications for a successful and complete construction drawing set.
-Prepare conceptual site layouts
-Develop engineering drawings including MEP plans, electrical plans, ductwork plans, structural plans, site plans, grading plans, demolition plans, utility plans, drainage plans, erosion control plans, landscaping and irrigation plans, details and additional drawings as required.
-Perform necessary calculations for electrical load analysis, circuit breaker sizing, and power distribution. Select necessary equipment for a complete and operational power and lighting system.
-Perform necessary calculations including HVAC load analysis, ductwork pressure loss calculations, HVAC equipment sizing, short circuit analysis, wire sizing, stormwater calculations, hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, and any calculation required for a successful construction drawing as required and develop necessary specifications for a successful and complete construction drawing set.
-Develop plans for construction. Plans include but not limited to lighting plans, power plans, and single line diagrams. Plans should contain details, specification and scope required for construction.
-Review local code and ordinances.
-Review local township requirements for planning and zoning and building permits.
-Collect and complete planning and zoning documents. Prepare and upgrade plans for planning and zoning submission.
-Collect and complete permit documents.
-Projects include exterior lighting upgrades, HVAC relocations, and more.
-Coordinate local surveyor.
-Attend business development events, which may occur late at night and after hours.
-Travel to project sites. You should have your own transportation and valid driver’s license.
Project sites are generally located within NJ, PA, and NY, but could also expand to other states.
-Travel to local city/township departments (ie Building and Zoning Department).  City/township departments are generally located within NJ, PA, and NY, but could also expand to other states.
-Travel to local building departments.  Building departments are generally located within NJ, PA, and NY, but could also expand to other states.
-Complete tasks and mark-ups in other disciplines such as HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing and Structural Engineering.
- Develop skills and expand knowledge in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Civil/Site Engineering.
-Additional tasks and assignments as required and assigned.
-Any after-hour events are optional and unpaid.
-Any training events either during lunch or after-hours are optional and unpaid. 

The Engineer Intern will be self-directed on their individual work and receive high level feedback on new projects or assignments. 
The Project Engineer will communicate and operate in line with organizational and client goals and values, as well as company’s objectives.
Essential Functions
Assist with Elements of the Design Lifecycle (75%)
• Ensure timely and effective design and plans.
• Visit project sites to collect necessary information.
• Perform necessary calculations and integrate into construction plans.
• Develop construction plans in AutoCAD adhering to industry standards for design and presentation.
• Complete permit applications for building department, planning and zoning.
• Ensure designs and plans are delivered on-time and on-budget.
• Complete tasks and mark-ups in disciplines such as HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing and Structural Engineering
• Develop RFPs as required.
• Ensure client satisfaction through active communication

Construction Support (10%)
• Assist with pre-construction elements including RFIs, schedules, submittals, and budgets.
• Ensure client satisfaction through active communication

Manage Stakeholder Relations (5%)
• Ensure client satisfaction through active communication.

Continuous Improvement (5%)
• Develop skills and expand knowledge in Engineering.

Administrative (5%)
• Provide reporting via email summaries with photo documentation.
• Assist with project documentation. Assist with project closeout.
• Complete permit applications as required.
• Manage personal and project hours using company tools
• Create / complete departmental reports

Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned


Requirements
Position Requirements
The successful candidate should possess the following baseline requirements to perform their assigned role:
• Knowledge of engineering.
• Knowledge of engineering trends and construction procedures and best practices.
• Skilled and working knowledge of AutoCAD. Skilled at using construction management software.
• Work Monday through Thursday and have flexibility for occasionally working non-traditional hours
• Follow company and site safety requirements
• Analyze and prepare documents, reports, and correspondence
• Complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Operate with excellent organizational skills.
• Manage multiple tasks simultaneously.  Self-manage work and prioritize tasks to complete critical path items first.
• Communicate in both oral and written form both technical and non-technical information. Ensure proactive and effective communication.
• Speak, read, write, and type in English.
• Communicate directly with clients and at times serve as primary point of client contact
• Work independently and collaboratively with onsite and remote team members, clients, and construction team.
• Analyze complex information and develop plans to address identified issues
• Ensure strong initiative, strong leadership, and critical thinking skills
• Work under pressure and meet close deadlines
• Analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
• Frequently required to be and remain in a stationary position at a desk using a keyboard and mouse.
• Frequently communicating and exchanging information with peers and managers via mobile device or computer.
• Frequently moving through office, buildings, sites, construction sites and other environments.
• On occasion, the employee may be required to position self under, around or over equipment, site utilities,
• On occasion, the employee may be required to position self in vehicle and transit to project sites.
• On occasion the employee will descend / ascend ladders to access equipment and roofs.
• On occasion the employee may move items weighing up to 30 pounds

Office Requirements
This is an office role, based out of Belmar, NJ. The employee will be expected to report to the office Monday through Thursday, and as the scope of work requires.

The employee is responsible for their own transportation to or from the office and project site.  The employee must have a valid New Jersey driver's license and their own vehicle.
Any time spent travelling to or from the office, before or after their shift respectively, is unpaid.

Travel / Relocation Requirements
• Able to travel to project sites which may be local or regional (outside New Jersey).

Education / Experience Requirements
• Currently a senior working on their bachelor's degree (anticipated graduation May 2026 or sooner) B.S. degree in engineering or related discipline, or 
• Currently working on their master's degree (anticipated graduation May 2026 or sooner) M.S. degree in engineering or related discipline
